Rema Biography

Born on May 1, 2000, Divine Ikubor is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and entertainer well known by his stage name Rema. He rose to fame after the song “Dumebi” was released. In 2019, he signed a recording deal with Jonzing World, a division of Mavin Records. 2018 saw Rema post a well-liked freestyle to D’Prince’s song “Gucci Gang” on Instagram. D’Prince spotted the message and flew the young musician to Lagos to extend an offer of a record deal. Rema signed a record deal with Jonzing World in 2019 and soon after, the artist released his debut EP, Rema. Rema declared in May 2021 that he would be referring to his music as “Afrorave,” an Afrobeats subgenre with influences from Arabian and Indian music. He has one of the nation’s largest fan bases, referred to as Ravers, as a result.

Rema was introduced as a brand ambassador for the well-known soft drink Pepsi in September 2021 along with his labelmate Ayra Starr. After releasing two more EPs, he released his debut album, Rave & Roses, on March 25, 2022. The album debuted with 10 songs on the US Billboard Afrobeats Chart after its first week of release. On August 26, 2022, he and Selena Gomez worked together on a remix of his song “Calm Down,” which debuted at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100.
