She was born Yvonne Nelson, is a Ghanaian actress, model, film producer and an entrepreneur. The Ghana’s most talented actress was born November 12 1985, to Margaret Gaddy and Mr. Oko Nelson in Accra Ghana, the last child in a family of four. The actress has the arrogance of a last born or you might also call it bravery if it sounds better to you. According to her biography, she was abandoned by her biological father when she was still a child and her single mother single handedly raised her . If you are a fan of this actress, you just learnt why she always celebrate her mother on father’s days – she literally wishes her “Happy Father’s Day” time and again on social media

Nelson attended St. Martin De Porres School in Accra and later went to Aggrey Memorial Senior High School. She received her tertiary education at Central University College, where she did a degree course in Human Resource Management. She was doing very well until she got pregnant while at Central College University, she had to drop out. It is a common phenomenon that all successful people have to be college dropouts and i don’t really known why, maybe they are being inspired by Kanye West who knows. According to revelations, she was very desperate to get the best education to the extent she gave her little born baby to a couple in Botswana.

CAREER AND LIFE

Yvonne Nelson became very famous after winning her first beauty pageant when in high school. She continued forging ahead for couple of years , she took her chance when at Aggrey Memorial High School and won the Miss Aggrey. She also contested for the 2005 Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant, though she did not win, she won Best Talent Award” by performing an original rap song on HIV/AIDS. Nelson was also crowned the winner of “Miss Photogenic” and two other awards.

These awards gave her more ground and exposure to  win a two-year contract as face of Maxim Cosmetics, and landed a role in the TV series “Fortune Island”, where her acting career kick started officially.
In a brief chat with Vanguard, she revealed that the breakthrough started at Venus Films. Venus Films is a well known production house in West Africa and has worked with quite a few celebrities as well. Her professional acting career started at the production house before she was given her first role .
After deciding to pursue her professional acting career , she was formally introduced to the business in the movie titled “Princess Tyra” where she played her first lead role as an actress. After successfully starring in about five more movies she travelled to Nigerian to shoot her first collaboration with Genevieve Nnaji in 2007, which launched her career in Nollywood. She has become an household name in Nigerian movie industry after starring in several Nollywood firms.

In 2011, she tried her hand in movie production in the her first movie titled , “The Price”, she subsequently produced others like “Single And Married” the following year. Two years later, the Ghanaian beauty won “Best Picture at the Ghana Movie Awards” and “Best Ghanaian Movie” in Nigeria at the 2013 City People Awards. She later bagged “House of Gold” in 2013 that same year.
History has it that Yvonne Nelson is the first Ghanaian actress to have acted in Ivory Coast when the three nations-Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast- first collaborate. The beautiful actress and producer has featured in more than one hundred films within the three states. She recently disclosed that she is better off acting. She also revealed that she cannot think of comparing Hollywood to Nollywood which is very heartbreaking for Ghana and the rest of West Africa .

Yvonne Nelson is well known for the bad roles she play in movies , she play some nasty roles in movies, but she is nothing close to the roles she play on movie because she neither smokes nor drinks. She is that iron lady that prefer the romantic scenes- its funny how she puts it…”I can go for a few kissing .

Apart from acting, Yvonne also engage her self in other stuffs. In case you didn’t know, she is very hardworking business woman – she has a hairline, a fashion shop called “YN’s Closet” stocked with the latest designer wears you can ever imagine. Yvonne together with other celebrities joined the masses in protests against the energy crisis in her country. The pretty actress headed a peaceful vigil on May 16, 2015, called DumsorMustStop. The hashtag #dumsormuststop was used on social media to raise more awareness on the concerns of Ghanaians with regards to the energy crisis.

IN AN ITERVIEW WITH VANGUARD SHE TALKS ABOUT HER MORALS,LESBIANISM AND MORE….
Bad girl roles The first revelation was that Yvonne Nelson is an exceedingly pretty actress –far prettier in real life than in her movies. Second, she is a far cry from those bad girl roles she plays in movies. Yvonne neither smokes nor drinks. An offer of drinks from me was flatly but graciously rejected.

Her depiction as a diva also felt flat because the Yvonne that I saw and interviewed was thoroughly grounded and even shy. So why all the misconceptions?, I asked her. In a diction and vocal cadence that showed a highly educated and urbane mind, Yvonne told me she had been hugely misunderstood. “That is why I am willing to address some of those misconceptions now. Even though it pains me to have to talk about them, but I will. I am nothing close to the roles I play in movies.
People should understand that I am an actresses and I get scripts that expect me to act in a certain manner. As a consummate professional, I am not going to turn down those scripts because I was expected to act in a certain manner,”she said. “I am aware that some people took exception to the role I played in the movie “Heart of Men” where there appeared to be some form of frontal nudity, but the truth of the matter is that there was no such overt display of nudity. But let’s even for the sake of argument say there was some nudity, why are we so judgmental and somewhat hypocritical? The same people who took issues with that movie watch Hollywood movies where sexually graphic scenes are shown in a most morally appalling manner. We don’t condemn such roles; we, as a matter of fact, celebrate such roles. I am not an advocate of nudity or sexually graphic images in our movies.
I have actually spoken against some of those tendencies; I will never appear frontally nude in any movie no matter the fees promised. “I have morals and my morals are held closely to my chest. As you may recall, I was not the only person in that scene; there were others, and I am always at a loss when my role appeared to have been the one that garnered the most reaction. If you have been following the industry, which I believe you do, overt resort to nudity has been greatly reduced. It was a phase-one that was experimented by some producers and realizing that it ran counter to the values that Nollywood orGallywood espoused, the producers went back to doing stories that are heavy on family values.” One of the rumors that dominated the industry, last year, was one that centered on her sexual orientation. It was widely speculated that Yvonne Nelson was a lesbian or, at best, a bi-sexual. Until this moment, Yvonne had not commented on that rumor and when I asked her what her real sexual orientation was, she looked me straight in the eye and said “look at me….what do you think? Of course, I am not a lesbian. Lesbianism is against my religious beliefs, it’s against my cultural norms and I think it was very mischievous for people to insinuate such about someone they hardly knew.

The rumor was started by a notorious website in Ghana last year when they reported that they had never seen me with a man. In their warped and twisted calculation, I was thus a lesbian. Can you imagine such crass reasoning? That they had not seen me with a man, and may have seen me with my girlfriends going out to have fun, and then automatically I was a lesbian. It was a hatchet job – an attempt to discredit me, but they all failed. I am heterosexual and would remain one till the end. When you are in the public light as I have been blessed and privileged to being, your life becomes a public property and some mischievous people will say all manner of things about you. It comes with the territory, so I forgive them.”

She founded the Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation in 2010 to help create awareness about the disease. With support from other Ghanaian celebrities, she recorded an all-star charity single, and shot a video to help educate people. In 2013 she was honoured by GoWoman Magazine and Printex for her foundation and film career.
In recent times, Nelson has taken it upon herself, together with other celebrities, to add more voices to the masses in protests against the energy crisis in her country. She led a peaceful vigil on May 16, 2015, called DumsorMustStop. The hashtag #dumsormuststop is currently used on social media to amplify the concerns of Ghanaians with regards to the energy crisis.
