Lady Zamar told TshisaLIVE that because her dad was from Zambia and her mom from South Africa and they were brought up with two different cultures, she herself was confused as a child.

“Both of my parents have got two different cultures. It was difficult growing up not knowing where I stood in life or which (culture) I should define myself with.

“It was not their fault. They fell in love. They couldn’t even understand each others’ language when they met and had to communicate in English,” she explained.

She said that she was not ashamed by her multi-cultural home and learnt to embrace it.

“A lot of people were aware of my parent’s culture but I don’t hide it. A lot of people say that I don’t even look or sound South African completely and I am like: ‘yah, that is because I am a mix. I am a curry pot’. By nationality and lineage I am a curry pot but I see myself as intra-continental,” she said

She launched her career many years ago without any intention of staying in it for a long time because she had plans was to teach in Korea. Everything changed when she Junior Taurus released Run Away, the success of the song made her changed her mind and stayed in the music industry instead of teaching in Korea.

The stunning songstress has collaborated with many top South African artistes and has featured on some hits songs like Pitori, Mamelodi, Dark Shadows, Love is Blind and Charlotte.

Lady Zamar released her debut album “King Zamar” in March and she made it known that the album was a long project that took her two years to complete. No, not at all. I’m not in a relationship, I actually just came out of one recently. It’s not a big thing though. I wrote that song about my first love which is and always was writing and teaching. I had plans to go teach in Korea but after we (Junior Taurus and I) released Run Away and it took off I decided to stay and keep with music. I was depressed though when my musical carer took off and I didn’t go into studio for about five months because I was still thinking about teaching in Korea.

  • I love trucks. I’ve always had a dream of owning one and just parking it and looking at it all the time.
